Wild Wild West (DVD)

Barry Sonnenfeld is reunited with his MEN IN BLACK star Will Smith in this gadget-soaked romp based (loosely) on the 1960s television show. WILD WILD WEST supplies many impressive visuals (thanks to brilliant production designer Bo Welch) and some hearty laughs. Will Smith is James West, a Civil War hero and U.S. marshal inclined to shoot first and ask questions later. His partner is the wacky inventor and pseudointellectual Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline). The team is created when the world's leading scientists are kidnapped by a diabolical madman named Dr. Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh), and President Ulysses S. Grant (also played by Kevin Kline) wants his two best men on the job. Loveless's machines have the creepy fun feeling of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (Welch again)--many of them have a spider motif--and Artemus Gordon rivals him with his own fun inventions. An odd but enjoyable blend of science fiction and old-school Western, WILD WILD WEST is packed with cool images and slick action sequences.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Single Side - Dual LayerAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary - 1. The Lizzie McGuire Movie (DVD)

Accident-prone Lizzie McGuire (Hillary Duff) gets the adventure of a lifetime when she takes a two-week school trip to Rome following her junior high school graduation. On her first day in the Eternal City, Lizzie meets Paolo (Yani Gellman), half of a famous Italian pop duo. Paolo and his partner, Isabella, have recently split up due to creative differences. With the exception of her blonde tresses, all-American Lizzie is a dead ringer for the dark-haired Isabella, and charming Paolo persuades her to pretend she's Isabella at an important awards show. Posing as the diva, Lizzie is waited on hand and foot and admired by millions--and she gets to hang out with a cute Italian boy who seems to like her. Of course, sneaking away from her school tour is no easy feat, especially with group leader Miss Ungermeyer (Alex Borstein) on watch. But with the help of her lifelong pal, Gordo (Adam Lamberg), who also harbors a secret crush on his best friend, Lizzie gets to live out her fantasies. Robert Carradine, Hallie Todd, Ashlie Brillault, and Clayton Snyder reprise their roles from the Disney television series of the same name in this feature from director Jim Fall (TRICK).DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Screen - 1.33Anamorphic Widescreen - 2.35Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Alternate Ending Deleted Scenes Featurette - 1. Turn It Up (DVD)

Rapper Pras Michel (of the Fugees) stars in this tale of a gifted young musician with big dreams. Partially based on Pras's autobiographical book and album GHETTO SUPASTAR, the story also features other real-life musicians, such as Ja Rule, Faith Evans, Bootsy Collins (who plays himself), Harry-O, and MTV host DJ Skribble. Pras is Diamond, who's involved in the drug world with his childhood best friend Gage (Ja Rule), but wants to get out and be legitimate in order to to pursue his musical career. Gage believes in Diamond, but knows they need money to get anywhere, and he's willing to do anything to get it. His impulsive hotheadedness soon gets both men into more trouble than they can handle, compounded when Diamond's girlfriend announces she's pregnant. When Diamond's estranged father comes back into his life after the sudden death of his mother, they find common ground in the music they both love. But Diamond's pulled in two directions: toward his dreams, his girl, and his family, and toward his loyalty to his best friend. Hackers/WarGames (DVD)

HACKERS: A young hacker prodigy meets other kids like himself when he and his mother move cross-country and settle in New York City. High school takes on a new light when Dade (Jonny Lee Miller) meets a group of misfits and rich kids who hack into computer systems for fun. When one of their group is suddenly arrested, the others band together to take on a corporate hacker disguised as a security officer and attempt to bring down his devious and diabolical plans.WARGAMES: In director John Badham`s WARGAMES, Matthew Broderick stars as David Lightman, a young hacker who accidentally logs on to the Department of Defense network. Thinking that he`s found a cool new computer-game manufacturer, David plays checkers, chess, and other more intriguing games like Global Thermonuclear War. Realizing that their system has been tampered with, military operatives arrest him. However, the computer continues to play the "game" of thermonuclear warfare without David and generates the very real threat of World War III. In an attempt to prevent global disaster, David and his girlfriend, Jennifer (Ally Sheedy), search desperately for the scientist who designed the system before the government computer initiates a full-scale nuclear war.A landmark of 1980s cinema, WARGAMES was keenly tuned into its time. Computers remained a relative mystery in the early 1980s, as they were used primarily by large corporations and government agencies, but not by many individuals at home. The general public had already been warned of the danger of computer takeover in 1968 with 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, and this fear grew as computers became more popular. The threat of communist takeover and nuclear war loomed large in the collective consciousness, before the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the cold war. Video games had become highly popular, however, and for a generation of players of Pac-Man and Space Invaders, WARGAMES combined the country`s deepest fears with its biggest fantasies.
