Setting up a 1-800 number for your business can go as complicated as having to change the number you want. This case can go even worse if you're looking to get a vanity number that spells out your business name. But before you start looking for a better 1-800 number, you may want to do a number search for yourself. Why should you do a number search? Well, the easy answer to that is, if you don't do a number search, you can waste a lot of time; either by looking for a new number or by asking phone companies if your requested number is in use.

An 800 number search is a process wherein you get to look for your requested number to see if it is available for you to buy. This process is a must especially if you're going to buy a number for your business as not all companies have a shared system that allows you to share your number with someone else (but may confuse your customers). A number search will allow you to find out which numbers are available thus giving you more time to choose and less time haggling with the phone company. How do you do a number search?

There are many ways to make an 800 number search. For one, is the traditional way, which takes a lot of time and can be quite a waste if your numbers (worse, if all your chosen numbers) are already taken. By dialing the phone number through your own phone, you can see if your number is currently taken. If it rings and someone answers, then definitely, you cannot use that number. If you use this technique, you may find yourself with a lot of phone bills to pay.

Another way to make a number search is through the phone company itself. Although, not a promising technique since most phone companies take forever to answer, it is the most practical way if you've decided to take the 1-800 services of that phone company.

The best way to do a number search and not waste time is through the internet. Thanks to the rising technology, most phone companies now have their own websites and databases which allow you to do a number search without having to call them. By typing your number in their search bar, within minutes, their database will tell you if your number is taken as well as even giving you alternative numbers! Now all you have to do is choose and then call up that company to get your own 1-800 line.
