Most writers have been through periods where they feel creatively burnt out. These challenging times usually hit you out of the blue. One day the ideas are flowing and you feel like you are on a roll with writing your articles, and then the next day everything has changed.

  1. You are having trouble coming up with writing ideas that interest you.
  2. You start making uncharacteristic mistakes with grammar and spelling.
  3. You try to force yourself to write, but the content you create is sub-par for your standards.
  4. The more you try to write, the more discouraged you get. Pretty soon it's a struggle just to make an attempt at writing an article.

Writer's Block Can you relate? I certainly can. I have been writing articles for article marketing for many years and have been through several of these creatively sluggish periods.

If you are suffering from writer's block right now, I'd like to offer you some encouragement, as well as some practical article marketing tips to help you persevere.

You Have Not Lost The Ability To Write

This may sound obvious to anyone who is not currently in a writing slump, but when you are feeling burnt out you start to wonder if you'll ever write a decent piece of content again.

You will.

Writer's block is extremely common, even with exceptionally gifted professional writers. It is not related to your technical ability to write--It is primarily a mental hurdle that will eventually go away, rather than a true diminishment of your writing ability.

Technically, if you could write last week, that ability is still inside you.

A Mental Vacation

Creative burnout can be a symptom of fatigue, and the best prescription is simply to give yourself some concentrated TLC. Give yourself a break for a few days or weeks. Slow down your lifestyle for a while if you think that your personal or family schedule is running you ragged.

Spend more time outdoors, do things that you enjoy, and do things that make you laugh. Take the afternoon off and go see a movie with your spouse. Take an impromptu hike in the woods with your kids.

Your mind needs refreshment in order to function properly. Perhaps your body and mind are trying to tell you something with this creative drought.

Change Your Writing Environment

Many writers write most efficiently in a space that is quiet and comfortable. Got a lot of distractions going on at the house? Try writing at the library, the coffee shop, or some other place where they offer Wi-Fi.

There are also certain times of day when things are more quiet. If you have kids, that is most likely when they are sleeping or at school.

Even if it seems completely far fetched, experiment with writing during a different time of day. Usually an mid-morning or afternoon writer? Try early morning. Or try writing at night after everyone has gone to bed.

Planning For A Writing Rut

The worst part of writer's block is that by the time you realize it is upon you, you are not in any state to deal with it. You need to write articles, or your marketing campaign will suffer. What can you do to make it so that any periods of creative burnout do not hurt your business?

You can plan ahead by writing a month's worth of articles and stashing them away. Then when you hit that drought, you won't be under so much pressure.

It would even be helpful just to have a month's worth of first drafts. That would at least give you a head start.
